Blocking Port 6000

I have seen alot of questions on how people are becomming gm on there server through port 6000 blah blah blah this is an easy guide on how to block.

What is port 6000:

It is a simple bug within the DBServer.exe which allows players to exploit it and get level 255 and any items on your server etc etc.

How To Block:

Download Zone Alarm Pro

Run DBServer.exe located: C:\mirserver\mud2\DBSrv200

If you have installed zone alarm pro properly you will get this when you have opened it

Click deny this will block port 6000 once you have done this it will then say

Click Allow.

You have now blocked port 6000 you have also protected your PC from alot of hackings and standard DoS attacks.

Ive never tried but im sure there should be go into the norton security settings and block port 6k

When i had ZA installed, and tryed hosting a server, people simply could not connect. Have you tryed it? If not, try it and if it wont let connect people to the server, post a guide on what people should modify in the settings or w/e. for ZA.

It worked for me and i didnt need to configure it at all to get it working. Make sure you allow all the programs to connect and allow the ports for each prog

would a normal windows firewal be ok to block port 6000?? coz it allowed you to block ports coz it says *block ports* on a TAB lol. So u think it should work on windows firewall??

Yes it does theres another guide on that but i strongly recommend you use Zonealarm pro ive allways found it easier and better as it monitors all programs so you dont get things opening that you dont want opening on startup

For ppl who dont want to d/l ZA, cant they just change port 6000 to 7000 through the DBServer file?? That way people cant become gm's since they arnt going through port 6000 but port 7000?

For example with the AlphaFrOzen files if you go to

C:\alphafrozen\mud2\DBSrv200\dbsrc.ini

and their you can replace Port=6000 with Port=7000

I havnt tried it but it might work, I aint an expert on it either.

that means they cud just use port 7000 instead of 6000, and also port 7000 is already being used by the login gate...

Could always pick a random port DW surely

yea but if u done that then they can port scan u and just try the ports i think :P
